Aussie Drugstore Beauty Haul - Part 2
Wednesday, October 15, 2014Onto part two of the Aussie Drugstore Beauty Haul!
~ Nude by Nature ~
Can be found at Myer, David Jones, Priceline etc, is a fairly prominent mineral makeup brand on shelves here in Aussie.
Nude on the Go kit - $14.95 on sale
great mineral foundation starter kit
comes with a primer and brush
last fairly well on my combo skin
primer is heavily scented and sets quickly
swatch of the light/medium Nude mineral foundation |
~ Chi Chi ~
Can be found everywhere, Myer, Target, Gloss Accessories, Priceline and is often on sale. Their line includes all types of products from nail polish to foundation.
Oasis Eyeshadow Palette - $22.95
mix of brights and neutrals, mattes and shimmers
disappointing payoff with the matte texture
over priced compared to other US drugstore brands/quality
~ Australis ~
A popular Australian brand, can be found in most chemists/pharmacies and department stores like the ones mentioned above. Great variety of products in their line up too!
Cray for Colour Eyeshadow Stick 2.5 g - $8.95ea
in "Soiling the Fun" taupe and "Alluring Virtue" pewter shades
standout items of the whole bunch!
great colour payoff
blends easily before it sets
once set does not budge!
Nail Colour - $7.95ea
great shade range
awesome glitters available
wears decently
so perdy! L-R: Soiling the Fun and Alluring Virtue |
~ Miss Shop ~
This is a budget Myer brand that includes clothing and accessories as well as makeup. Can be found at most Myer stores.
Nail Polish - Neon Quad Kit $5
great price
bright neon colours
the yellow and green didn't have the best formula, was definitely streaky
orang-red and pink were great
handy for nail art projects
handy for nail art projects
swatches on the top 4 fingers - the pink and orange were the best performers |
Mini Face Palette $14.95
poor texture on the eyeshadows
blush has glitter
lip gloss wells are too deep to use effectively and the gloss is super sheer
great bright fun packaging
I would skip this one
lip gloss wells are the size of a 5c piece but super deep making them hard to use without a brush |
L-R: Swatches of the eyeshdows, then the blush and then the lip glosses top to bottom |
~ Essence Beauty ~
This brand I've seen around for a while now at Target but is at the super budget end of the scale so I've generally not bothered with it. For this haul I founf a small display at Priceline and thought what the hell, lets give it a go. They have a great range and super affordable mascaras!
All About Matt Foundation $6.45
the lightest tone is too dark for my skin tone
formula seems ok
better options out there
Match 2 Cover Concealer $3.50
great formula, thin with slip and doesn't cake
covers under eye circles
can be built up to about a medium coverage
great cool tone paired with a warm tone in the pack
Maximum Length Mascara $3.50
&
1 <3 Extreme Volume Mascara $4.95
&
Lashes Go Wild Mascara $3.50
all 3 mascaras did the job, nothing super outstanding though
L-R: Concealer shades dark and light, matt foundation swatched |
Phew!! Talk about a lot of products to get through! Overall there wasn't much that super impressed me and I'm still going to prefer buying US drugstore brands like NYX, Revlone, L'Oreal, Sleek online via ebay/brand sites etc as they just perform better at a lower cost - even including postage.
My fave items were the Australis Cray for Colour eyeshadow pens - blew my mind with their staying power. As you may know from my previous posts I have the oiliest eyelids that will crease anything ESPECIALLY a cream product, but these babies didn't budge through a whole 8hr work day - even with me layering them up to get an extra metallic shine. I'm definitely going back for the rest of the colours in the range.
Honourable mentions go out to the Nude mineral makeup kit, the Essence concealer, the BYS blush palette and Eyebrow Kit and the Savvy matte foundation, cheek balm and powder blush.
I hope this has help anyone out there interested in local department store/chemist/pharmacy offerings and maybe saving and investing in a midrange or luxury brand might be a better option OR jump online and join the rest of us beauty addicts scooping up bargains from the US and the UK :P
